The Adjustable Bag Rider or ABR™, is a precision rifle accessory designed to provide a stable, consistent interface between the rear of your rifle and a shooting bag.

Unlike a traditional fixed angled bag rider, the ABR™ allows you to make precise vertical adjustments using a thumb wheel. This helps you fine-tune rifle elevation without having to manipulate your shoulder and rifle as this creates inconsistent recoil.

The ABR™ is designed for precision shooting applications where stability, repeatability, straight tracking, and precise elevation adjustment are important.

Squeezing a bag is inconsistent and difficult to maintain for extended periods.  Softer squeeze bags have a lot of fill migration which creates the vertical dispersion.

An Adjustable Bag Rider creates a more stable and repeatable shooting platform by supporting the rear of the rifle on a shooting bag.

The ABR™ is designed for precision rifle shooters looking for greater stability and more precise elevation control from the rear of the rifle.

Depending on the rifle, ABR™ configuration, and shooting discipline, it will be useful for long-range shooting, extreme long-range (ELR) shooting, bench shooting, load development, rifle accuracy testing, recreational precision shooting, hunting applications, and certain PRS-style stages.

Yes. Long Shot Precision Adjustable Bag Riders are CNC-machined from American-made aluminum and assembled in the United States.  Dowels and thumb wheels are precision made in the USA.

ABRs™ feature an anodized finish, precision linear bearings, stainless steel thumb wheel and a buttery smooth vertical adjustment with zero wobble.

Long Shot Precision offers Adjustable Bag Rider configurations for a wide variety of precision rifles, stocks, and chassis systems.

If you do not see your exact rifle, stock, or chassis listed, contact Long Shot Precision with information about your setup.

Start with the Shop by Rifle section or search for the manufacturer and model of your rifle chassis.

Pay close attention to the exact model and generation. Two rifles from the same manufacturer may require different ABRs™ or may not be compatible with the same mounting system.  Images are included with most options.

When in doubt, use the contact us before ordering. Providing the manufacturer, model, stock/chassis and photos of the rear stock or mounting area can help identify the appropriate configuration.

Long Shot Precision offers different lower rider profiles for different rear bag setups.

The ELR Rider has a flat base approximately .850 inches wide and .5 inches tall.

The V Rider has a V-shaped bottom designed to work with a standard two-stitch leather shooting bag.

Your choice should be based primarily on whether you already have a good leather bag. Visit our Bag Selection Guide for more information about choosing a rider and rear bag combination.

Dowel selection depends on your caliber and intended use.

For most ABR™ applications:

Standard Dowels: For .338 caliber and smaller.

Hardened Dowels: Required for larger calibers.

PRS / Coarse Thread Applications: Hardened dowels are required.

The thread pitch determines how quickly the Adjustable Bag Rider changes elevation.

Fine Thread: The standard option and best suited for applications where very precise elevation adjustment is the priority, including bench and ELR shooting.

Coarse Thread: Allows faster adjustment and is intended for PRS, timed shooting events, hunting, and other situations where quicker elevation changes may be useful.

Coarse-thread applications require hardened dowels.

Adjustment range varies by ABR model and configuration. For example, the Long Dowel ABR provides approximately 1.48 inches of vertical adjustment.

Check the individual product description for specifications relating to the ABR™ you are considering.

The ABR uses a thumb wheel connected to the lower rider. Turning the wheel raises or lowers the rider to change the rear height of the rifle.

This allows the shooter to make precise elevation changes without relying solely on squeezing, repositioning, or adding pressure to a rear shooting bag.

Yes. The Adjustable Bag Rider is designed to work in combination with an appropriate rear shooting bag.  Bags absorb shock and keep the rifle from bouncing.

The rider creates a stable surface between the rifle and bag while the ABR's adjustment system provides precise vertical movement.

For many shooting setups, the ABR™ provides an alternative solid rear-support solution to a wobbly monopod by combining a rear bag with precise mechanical elevation adjustment.

It depends on your rifle and ABR configuration.

A vertical grip is recommended or required with certain applications because it creates additional clearance between the back of the grip and the front of the Adjustable Bag Rider.

Long Shot Precision offers adjustable precision grips designed to provide this additional clearance while also promoting consistent trigger-finger placement.

Check the individual ABR™ product page to determine whether a vertical grip is recommended for your configuration.

Most ABRs™ are designed for straightforward installation, while others require modifications or custom fitting.

For example, certain bolt-on models attach directly to compatible stocks or chassis using supplied hardware. Custom ABRs may require drilling, machining, or modification to the stock or ABR.

Always follow the installation instructions for your specific model.

Required tools depend on the ABR™ model. Most bolt-on installations require only basic hand tools.

The basic ABR™ requires a hex wrench for installation.

Check your product's installation instructions which list the size.

Yes. Replacements with upgraded hardened dowels are available.

For example, an existing ABR™ with the V bottom rider may want an ELR rider. Note: the same thread pitch needs to be ordered on the new rider so the thumb wheel will operate.

Yes, ABRs™ can be configured for larger-caliber rifles with the Hardened dowels option. 

Long Shot Precision specifies hardened dowels for .33XC and larger calibers. Individual rifle and ABR™ requirements may vary, so if your rifle has hard recoil the Hardened dowels are recommended.

Certain Adjustable Bag Rider configurations can be used for PRS-style shooting. Long Shot Precision offers a coarse-thread adjustment option designed for faster adjustments during timed stages.

PRS/coarse-thread use requires hardened dowels.

Competition equipment rules can vary, so shooters should independently confirm that their setup complies with the rules for a particular match or organization.

Yes. Extreme long-range shooting is one of the primary applications for the Adjustable Bag Rider.

The ABR provides a stable rear interface and precise elevation adjustment that can be particularly useful when making small corrections at extended distances.

Fine-thread adjustment is the standard configuration for ELR applications.

As of January 2023, Long Shot Precision states that the ABR™ is not approved for F-Class competition.

Competition rules can change, so always consult the current rules of the governing organization before using any shooting accessory in competition.  Smaller ranges do not enforce all rules so check with the match director beforehand.

An ABR™ is very useful to a shooter wanting a stable and repeatable rear rifle position, including bench shooting, load development, and accuracy testing.

The ability to mechanically adjust rear elevation can also reduce the amount of repositioning required between shots.

No. Adjustable Bag Riders are not universally interchangeable.

Fit can depend on the rifle manufacturer, model, generation, stock or chassis, mounting slots or rails, available clearance, grip configuration, and other equipment.

Never assume that an ABR designed for one model will fit another simply because the stocks appear similar.

If you are unsure which Adjustable Bag Rider to order, provide as much information about your rifle as possible, including:

• Rifle manufacturer

• Exact model

• Stock or chassis manufacturer and model

• Generation, if applicable

• Caliber

• Intended shooting application

• Photos of the rear stock/chassis and mounting area

Angled bag riders require the rifle be moved forward and backwards on the bag to change the Point of impact.  Moving the rifle with shoulder muscles creates inconsistent recoil. Compared to being relaxed behind the rifle and only using the thumb wheel to change vertical.

A leather bag with low ears (bunny ears), short ears and has the correct space between the ears so the rider is tight. See the bag selection page. 

If a softer bag is to be used - one with more fill would have less fill migration from shot to shot reducing vertical dispersion.  If the soft bag can be folded in half to tighten the fill but still have a small indentation for the rider to track in.

It’s recommended to open the ABR™ halfway.  Go to your favorite shooting spot and set up.  Place shims under the rider until you are comfortable behind the scope.  The height of the shims is the height of the bag you need as there is still half travel up and down.  

If ordering a new leather bag - it’s best to order the smallest bag possible.  It’s easier to move a small light bag a small amount after a shot to swing the reticle back in line.  Do not order heavy sand or a longer bag as a small light bag is easier to move while set-up, less expensive and easier to carry.

The Long Shot Precision Adjustable Grip is designed to help all rifle shooters achieve consistent trigger-finger placement and proper finger mechanics during the trigger pull.

Each grip includes four different-height trigger finger spacers, allowing you to adjust your trigger-finger position based on your hand / finger size, rifle, chassis, and trigger location. The spacers can also be repositioned forward or backward on applicable models to accommodate chassis systems where the trigger sits at different distances from the grip.

The result is a more consistent hand and trigger-finger position from shot to shot.

Long Shot Precision Adjustable Grips are designed to improve shooter consistency and provide:

The ability to customize finger position can be particularly useful for precision and long-range shooters looking for a repeatable interface between the shooter and rifle.

Four different-thickness finger spacers are included with the grip. Shooters can select the spacer height that provides the best trigger-finger position.  A #1 phillips head screw driver is needed to swap spacers.  The trigger finger spacer that is installed for shipping fits the average size man's hand.  It is shipped with the trigger finger spacer mounted in the forward position for most bolt action rifles For AR’s the spacer would have to be moved back.

On applicable Precision Adjustable Grips, the spacers can also be moved forward or backward to account for differences in trigger location between rifle chassis systems.

The spacers are contoured to provide a natural resting position for the thumb while also letting the spacer glide under the thumb during recoil.

Long Shot Precision offers several Adjustable Grip configurations for different rifles, shooting styles, and ABR™ setups. The Precision Grips trigger finger spacers have two mounting positions, back for AR’s and forward for Bolt action rifles.  The AR grips trigger finger spacers have one mounting position for AR’s.

Precision Vertical Adjustable Grip
Designed for precision shooting when the shooter's thumb is positioned over the trigger-finger spacer. The vertical design also provides additional clearance between the back of the grip and the front of an Adjustable Bag Rider.    

Precision Angled Adjustable Grip
Features a slight grip angle and is designed for shooters who position their thumb over the trigger-finger spacer. Because of its shape, it may not provide enough clearance for some ABR™ installations.  

Precision Angle Mounted Adjustable Grip
Designed specifically for the angled grip-mounting area found on Accuracy International AXSR and AX50 rifles. Once installed, the grip itself sits vertically.    

AK Precision Vertical Grip (ONLY for AK style mounting)

Uses Long Shot Precision's precision finger spacers with two available mounting locations. It is designed to accommodate shooting with the thumb on the finger spacer or positioned behind the grip.

AR Vertical Adjustable Grip
Use a thinner designed trigger-finger spacers so the shooter can reach the trigger while positioning the thumb behind the grip. 

AR Angled Adjustable Grip
Also uses shorter trigger-finger spacers for shooting with the thumb behind the grip.

If you're installing an Adjustable Bag Rider, grip clearance is an important consideration.

The Precision Vertical Adjustable Grip is specifically designed to provide additional open space between the back of the grip and the front of the ABR.

The AR Vertical Adjustable Grip is also designed for use with an ABR.

Angled grips may not provide enough clearance for certain ABR configurations, so check the requirements for your specific Adjustable Bag Rider before ordering.

The standard Long Shot Precision Precision Adjustable Grips and AR Adjustable grips are designed to replace standard mil-spec AR grips, making them compatible with many rifles and precision chassis systems that use a standard AR-style grip interface.

Special configurations are also available for other mounting systems, including Accuracy International AXSR and AX50 rifles.

AK-style applications are very different from AR mounts.

Because rifle and chassis configurations vary, check the selected grip profile and your rifle's mounting system before ordering.

The primary difference is the trigger finger-spacer configuration and intended thumb position.

The Precision Adjustable Grips are designed around a shooting position where the thumb rests over the trigger-finger spacer. They are designed for precision shooting.

The AR Adjustable Grips utilized thinner trigger finger spacers, allowing the trigger finger to comfortably reach the trigger when the shooter's thumb is positioned behind the grip.

Choosing between them depends on your preferred hand position - running and gunning an AR Grip is needed.  For precision shooting (thumb on top of the trigger finger spacer) the precision grip would be beneficial.

Yes. The interchangeable finger spacers are specifically designed to help customize the relationship between your hand, trigger finger, and trigger.

Four spacer thicknesses are included. On the Precision Grip models, the spacers can also be positioned forward or backward to accommodate chassis systems with different distances between the grip and trigger.

This allows shooters to experiment with the configuration that provides the most natural and repeatable trigger-finger placement.

Long Shot Precision Adjustable Grips include four different-thickness finger spacers along with the necessary mounting hardware. The standard product includes a 1/4-28 x 7/8-inch mounting bolt, spare trigger finger spacer screw and a 1/4-inch ID star washer.

Vertical grip installations require an extended 3/16-inch Allen/hex wrench for tightening the grip through the access hole in the back of the grip.

The Long Shot Precision Adjustable Grip weighs approximately 3.1 to 3.4 ounces, making it a lightweight addition to a precision rifle setup.

Long Shot Precision Adjustable Grips are made in the USA. They were developed specifically for precision shooting applications, with an emphasis on proper finger mechanics, repeatable trigger-finger placement, comfortable thumb positioning, and minimizing hand interference during recoil.

Yes. The Adjustable Grip can be used independently of an ABR™.

Its primary purpose is to provide customizable, consistent trigger-finger placement, proper finger mechanics and trigger positioning for precision shooting. Certain grip designs also provide the additional clearance needed when an ABR is installed, making the two products complementary rather than requiring them to always be used together.
