Bag Selection

  • The V bottom fits a standard 2 stitch bag (.850 tall).

  • The SQR bottom should fit a bag that currently works with the stock lower rail (Riders are .850” wide and .825” tall)

  • The ELR bottom is also .850” wide and .5” tall

If you already have rear bags the one you should use should have bunny ears or ELR ears. This allows the thumb wheel to pass above the ears.

Always get the ABR first and measure underneath the ABR when it is partially extended - call Protektor and provided this dimension.

Protektor Model

Not everyone has a quality rear bag. Sticking to the LSP credo of providing the shooter with the best solution possible, LSP has worked closely with the Protektor Model company to develop the “Round Back” rear shooting bags. These bags have been collaboratively designed for use with the ABR to maximize clearance from the thumb wheel to the front of the bag ear.  The ears are shorter allowing the rider to hang over the back for consistent recoil. Bunny ear and the even lower “ELR ear” can be ordered. The rounded back provides additional chest clearance when shooting from a bench (so the corner of the bag doesn’t hit your ribs when leaning forward to get on the scope). We recommend you ‘callProtektor Model and let them know which ABR you’ve purchased and which height bag you need. The new Small ELR bag is about 1.5” from between the ears to the ground. The shorter Round Back Bag is about 2 3/4” between the ears and 3 3/4” for the taller Round Back Bag. NOTE - some Round Back Bag are not listed on their website - you must call. (It will be on their website soon) Keep in mind that LSP designed the ABR bottoms to work well with just about any solution you choose so you really can’t make a bad choice on rear support. The V bottom fits a standard 2 stitch = 3/8” ear spacing. The ELR & SQR bottom should fit a bag currently used with most stock lower rails (5/8” spacing is optimum).

Any bag or sand sock can be used - but a bag with ears works best. If a sand sock is to be used a bag that is mostly filled will work best as less settling or fill movement will occur. A wider foot print (ELR or SQR) works better with softer bags. The Long Shot Precision Small Bag will provide about 2.25” height and has one side of the bag that grips and the opposite side that allows the rider to slide (see the Shop Page). Bags with bunny ears allow full access to the thumb wheel at all times. If a heavy leather bag is used and there is too much space in-between the ears and the rider the groups will be horizontal. If there is a space - remove the ABR from the bag - pushing down with your thumb on the top of the ears to shrink the space between the ears. If all space cannot be removed a shim can be tested - example : lay a piece of leather across the top of the ears and push the ABR down on top of it.

Summary:

The bags made for the ABR provide : Low Ears, Short Ears, proper Spacing for your rider and Rounded Back if you shoot from a bench. Use / order the smallest lightest bag you can as a small bag is easier to move small amounts to get the reticle in line after each shot.
